Plea Filed In Delhi Court Against PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi For 'Defamatory' Remarks On Adani Group

A Delhi court is hearing a petition seeking to restrain Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi from making allegedly false and misleading speeches against the Adani Group. The petitioner, who identifies as a social worker, farmer, and stock market investor, claims such statements damage the Adani Group’s market value and investor interests.

Allegations Against PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi

The petitioner cites speeches by both leaders in election rallies. PM Modi’s comments in Karimnagar, Telangana, allegedly criticised Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, suggesting Congress had been bribed by them. The petitioner says such claims are without basis and harm investor confidence.

The suit mentions a speech by Rahul Gandhi alleging the Central Government waived loans worth Rs. 15-16 lakh crore for industrialists like Gautam Adani. The petitioner argues these remarks are misleading and harm the Adani Group’s image and stock market performance.

Impact on Investors

The petitioner contends that false statements create confusion among investors. This can lead to high stock market volatility and significant financial losses. The suit seeks a permanent injunction to prevent such statements, protecting investor interests and market stability.

Detailed Accusations

In his petition, the petitioner cited several specific instances. One example includes Rahul Gandhi's March 3 speech in Madhya Pradesh. Gandhi reportedly claimed that the BJP government waived Rs. 16 lakh crore in loans for two wealthy industrialists while neglecting farmers’ loans. The petitioner argues such statements are damaging.

Similarly, PM Modi's speech in Telangana accused Congress of receiving illicit money transfers from Ambani and Adani. The petitioner believes these comments could harm national and international perceptions, potentially affecting foreign investment.

The petition asserts that these allegations could detrimentally impact the financial health of the country and requests the court’s intervention to prevent negative campaigns against the Adani Group.
