Non-cooperative Dayanidhi Maran faces CBI arrest

Bengaluru, July 16: Dayanidhi Maran has not cooperated with the investigation into the illegal telephone exchange scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation has told the Madras High Court.

The CBI filed a petition before the High Court seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to former union telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran.

The CBI has cited complete lack of cooperation by Maran during the three day questioning. He was evasive and required documents as sought were not submitted by him the CBI has alleged.

CBI looks to arrest Maran

Seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail would mean the CBI is looking to arrest Maran. At the moment he cannot be arrested as the high court had granted him anticipatory bail. A CBI official informed that ample opportunity was granted to Maran to spell out the truth.

Maran however was evasive and dodged certain key questions related to the scam. The CBI had alleged that Maran had used his office as telecom minister to install high speed lines at his home which in turn benefitted Sun Tv.

The CBI had directed Maran to submit certain documents by Monday but he had failed to so.

The CBI had waited for the former minister to submit the documents by Monday and had even indicated that they would move to arrest him if he failed to do so.

Hearing on Tuesday

The petition filed by the CBI is expected to come up on Tuesday. The CBI has said that it wants the anticipatory bail plea cancelled in the interest of the investigation.

Maran on the other hand had alleged a witch hunt and had sought anticipatory bail which protected him from being arrested. Maran would now file objections to the petition filed by the CBI.
