Navymen held for raping and blackmailing minor girl

Mumbai, July 21: Three defence personnel, including three Navy personnel, were arrested for repeatedly raping and blackmailing a minor girl. The Cuffe parade police station registered a police complaint against Jitendra Singh Daragokul Walchand (24), Pawan alias Ompal Hoshiyar Singh (31) and Rakesh Prasad Singh (41).

The fourth accused Pruthvi alias Umeshsigh Chauhan is a sailor and is on duty outside MUmbai. He has been asked to report back for the police investigations.

Investigations prove that the victim was in a relationship with one of the accused, but had broken off with him last year.

Police said that the accused had started blackmailing her and started demanding sexual favours from her. They threatened her that if she did not do what was expected of her, her fiance would be informed about everything. The girl succumbed to their demands.

Menawhile, the Navy is said to be extending all co-operation in the investigations. A navy release said,"Full cooperation has been extended by the Naval Provost Marshal, INS Kunjali, to the police in the investigation and one civilian (a Military Engineering Service employee) and two sailors have been handed over to the police today."
