Nagaland: Here community takes part to turn Dimapur ‘cleaner, greener, healthy’
The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has started its latest campaign-- "cleaner, greener and healthy Dimapur".
Kohima, May 22: In the hill state of Nagaland, people in large groups always come together to take part in any social and political movement. The closely-knit society truly understands the value of unity and brotherhood in every aspect of life.
Now, when the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has started its latest campaign-- "cleaner, greener and healthy Dimapur"--residents of the commercial hub of Nagaland are taking part in the initiative with great enthusiasm and energy to make it successful.

As a part of its latest initiative, the DMC is targetting to clean and transform garbage dumping areas into environmentally-friendly spaces. The people of the city are helping the civic body to materialise its latest project.
"Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC)'s campaign of a 'Cleaner, Greener and a Healthy Dimapur with Community Participation' continues, the latest initiative includes the transformation of areas around garbage dumping grounds into clean and environmentally friendly spaces. #Nagaland," tweeted ANI.
Dimapur has always been an eyesore in the otherwise clean and green Nagaland, thanks to potholed roads, garbage strewn everywhere and pollution. The locals blame rapid commercialisation and urbanisation of the city causing harm to its erstwhile clean and green environment.
Last year, the DMC launched "A Better Dimapur" project. The idea behind the project is to improve the city's sanitation, environment and aesthetic appeal through the active participation of the community.
In a year's time things are changing to the surprise of all. After the cleaning of garbage in an around an area by the locals and government employees, artists of Nagaland pitch in by painting the roadside walls with beautiful murals and installing artworks made out of scraps.
Talking to ANI, DMC administrator, Moa Sangtam, said individuals, organisations and institutions have responded tremendously to the clarion call for public welfare.
Several institutions such as Team Clean, Team Green, Living for Environment (LiFE) NGO, Healthy Dimapur, Act of Kindness and the Dismantling Team are a part of the DMC project.
Along with putting metal dustbins in public spaces, planting trees, recycling of waste, filling up potholes and removal of old posters and hoardings, the DMC is awarding colonies for maintaining cleanliness and beauty of their residential areas.
Residents of the bustling and vibrant city feel that they have a long way to go before their place truly turns into "Swachh (clean) Dimapur". Looking at the initial success, a day is not far away when Dimapur will regain its lost glory and become the proud custodian of "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission)".
