Karnataka Govt Sets Up Commission to Investigate MUDA Scam

The Karnataka government has initiated an inquiry into the alleged alternative site scam involving the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The investigation will be led by retired High Court judge, Justice P N Desai, as per the official order.

Probe into MUDA Land Scam

The commission is tasked with completing its investigation and submitting a report to the state government within six months. Relevant departments and MUDA officials are expected to cooperate by providing necessary documents and information to Justice Desai.

Allegations and Political Reactions

The controversy intensified after the BJP accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife, Parvathi, of benefiting from the alternative site plots. Siddaramaiah denied these allegations, stating that MUDA had unlawfully taken over his wife's four-acre land and created a layout without her consent.

MUDA compensated them by offering alternative plots, according to Siddaramaiah. However, the BJP questioned how MUDA could handle such a high-profile property without repercussions. The party estimates the scam's value at around Rs 3,000 crore.

Government's Response

The order for the inquiry was issued late Sunday night, just before the Legislature session scheduled from July 15 to July 26. This move aims to address the growing concerns and allegations surrounding the scam.

On Friday, the BJP held a demonstration in Mysuru to protest against the alleged scam. They demanded transparency and accountability from the government regarding this issue.

The inquiry commission's formation is seen as a step towards resolving these allegations. The commission's findings will be crucial in determining any wrongdoing and ensuring justice is served.

The state government’s decision to form an inquiry commission reflects its commitment to addressing corruption allegations. The outcome of this investigation will likely have significant political implications in Karnataka.
