Gujarat To Form Committee For Exploring UCC Implementation, Takes Cue From Uttarakhand
After Uttarakhand, Gujarat is set to follow suit with plans to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, and an announcement regarding the formation of a committee to draft the guidelines is expected on Tuesday.
According to an India Today report, a committee comprising 3-5 members is likely to be appointed.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi are scheduled to make the announcement at a press conference at 12:15 pm today, sources revealed.
The Uniform Civil Code, a key promise of the BJP, aims to establish a single law for all religious communities in areas such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, and more.
The Gujarat BJP government has been deliberating on the idea for some time. In 2022, the government formed a committee to examine the feasibility and necessity of introducing such a code, although its role was limited to evaluating the need for it.
Last month, Uttarakhand became the first state since India's independence to implement the Uniform Civil Code, which came into effect on January 27.
Uttarakhand's civil code mandates the registration of all marriages and live-in relationships. It includes key provisions such as equal property rights for sons and daughters, equal grounds for divorce, and the recognition of children born from live-in relationships.
The Pushkar Dhami-led BJP government in Uttarakhand has also introduced an online portal to simplify the registration processes for marriage, divorce, and inheritance.
