Student Groups Gear Up for Delhi University Elections with Extensive Campaigning
As the Delhi University elections approach, student groups including Congress-affiliated NSUI and ABVP are conducting full fledged campaigns. These include promises of violence-free campus, no fee hike and free metro passes among others.
As the countdown to Delhi University elections narrows down to two days, student groups are making full use of their campaigning time before the silence period begins. The code of conduct stipulates that all campaigning must cease at 8 am on September 21st, giving candidates and their teams a limited window for last-minute appeals and promises.
The Campaign Trail

The National Students Union of India (NSUI), affiliated with Congress, has been actively holding campaigns at various locations such as Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station, Khalsa College, Miranda House College, Ramjas College, Hansraj and Hindu College among others. Their campaign efforts are in anticipation of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) voting day scheduled for September 22nd.
Election Guidelines
In line with election protocol, the Chief Election Officer for DUSU elections issued a notice stating that canvassing activities must stop by 8 am on Thursday. This is a slight adjustment from previous guidelines where the silence period was set to end at 12 pm. All parties involved have been urged to strictly adhere to these timings.
Candidate Manifestos
Hitesh Gulia and Yakshna Sharma stand as NSUI's presidential candidate and secretary candidate respectively. They were seen informing students about their manifesto which addresses several pressing issues including menstrual leaves provision, an emergency response system for distress calls and increased police patrolling outside colleges.
Furthermore, in its manifesto, NSUI also pledges to ensure a violence-free campus environment along with no increase in fees and free metro passes - initiatives aimed at easing student life while ensuring safety within university premises.
Rival Candidates
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidates are also expectedly active during this pre-election period. ABVP, the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is considered a strong contender in these elections and their campaign strategies will be closely watched by all.
In conclusion, with election day fast approaching, Delhi University's political landscape is buzzing with activity. The final days leading up to voting are crucial for candidates as they make their last attempts to sway voters and secure support. The silence period marks an end to campaigning activities but also sets the stage for reflection and decision-making among students who will cast their votes on September 22nd. It remains to be seen how these manifestos translate into votes and which student group emerges victorious in these highly anticipated university elections.
