Tragic Bus Plunge into Soil Mine Pit Kills 11 in Durg District

In a tragic incident on Tuesday night, at least 11 individuals lost their lives and approximately 20 others sustained injuries after a bus, carrying employees of a private firm, veered off the road and plummeted into a murum soil mine pit in Chhattisgarh's Durg district. The accident occurred around 8:30 pm near Khapri village, under the jurisdiction of Kumhari police station. The victims, all employees of a distillery company, were en route home after concluding their day's work.

City Superintendent of Police for the Chhavni area, Harish Patil, provided details of the mishap. According to Patil, the bus was transporting more than 30 individuals when it skidded and fell into the 40-foot-deep mine pit. Murum, a type of soil utilized predominantly in construction activities, filled the pit into which the bus fell. Following the incident, police were promptly notified and a rescue operation was initiated to assist the victims.

The injured were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. In response to this distressing event, Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his sorrow and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased. Sai assured that all necessary arrangements for the treatment of the injured parties had been made. "Received the news about death of 11 employees of a private company in a bus accident. I pray that departed souls rest in peace and may God give strength to the bereaved family members," Sai remarked.

This incident has cast a shadow over the community, highlighting concerns regarding road safety and transportation regulations for workers commuting to and from their places of employment. The local authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the accident to prevent such tragedies in the future.
