Bangladesh Police Team Joins Forces with Bengal CID to Probe MP's Murder in Kolkata

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anar, a Bangladesh police team has arrived in Kolkata, seeking to collaborate closely with the West Bengal CID. The team, which reached the city on Sunday afternoon, has outlined its investigative plan, which includes interrogating the already arrested suspects, visiting Baranagar where Anar resided, and speaking with the MP's friend and landlord.

Joint Probe into MPs Murder in Kolkata

A senior state CID officer, preferring to remain anonymous, confirmed their support for the Bangladesh detectives, stating that all evidence collected by the state CID would be shared to facilitate the investigation. This cooperation marks a critical step in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and murder of Anar.

The case took a grim turn when Gopal Biswas, a Baranagar resident and acquaintance of Anar, reported him missing on May 18. Anar had arrived in Kolkata on May 12 for medical treatment and was last seen leaving his residence on May 13 for a doctor's appointment. He promised to return for dinner but became unreachable by May 17, leading Biswas to approach the police.

Kolkata Police have pieced together a chilling narrative from circumstantial evidence, suggesting that Anar was first strangled and then his body dismembered and disposed of in various locations. Despite extensive searches, his remains have yet to be discovered.

This case has drawn attention due to its international dimension and the collaborative efforts between Indian and Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies. The involvement of the Bangladesh police team in Kolkata underscores the seriousness with which both countries are approaching this investigation. As details continue to emerge, it is hoped that this joint effort will shed light on the circumstances of Anar's tragic demise and bring those responsible to justice.
