Amit Shah’s Assam Rally In Golakgunj Cancelled Due To Helicopter Landing Issue

Campaigning for the crucial Assam Assembly Elections 2026 saw an unexpected disruption on Friday after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's scheduled rally in Golakgunj, in Assam's Dhubri district, was cancelled due to a helicopter landing issue. The last-minute change briefly interrupted the BJP's campaign push in the state, though Shah quickly reached out to supporters through a telephonic message.

Rally Cancelled After Technical Snag

According to party sources, Amit Shah had left Guwahati for Golakgunj but was unable to land because of a technical problem involving his helicopter. With no immediate alternative arrangement available, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was forced to cancel the rally at the final moment.

The cancellation came during a high-intensity phase of campaigning, with political parties stepping up outreach efforts ahead of polling in the state.

Shah Addresses Supporters Over Phone

Even though he could not attend the rally in person, Shah connected with supporters through a phone call and apologised for not being able to make it to the venue. During his telephonic address, he appealed to voters to support BJP candidate Ashwini Ray Sarkar and described the election as an important moment for the state's continued development.

He also urged people to strengthen the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam and back the governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre.

Shah further told party workers and supporters that he would return to Assam for the victory celebrations if the BJP wins the mandate.

Campaign Schedule Continues With Dudhnoi Meeting

After the Golakgunj rally was cancelled, Shah continued with the rest of his campaign itinerary and travelled to Dudhnoi in Goalpara district for another public meeting.

His two-day Assam visit, which began on Thursday, has featured multiple rallies as the BJP looks to consolidate its position before voting day. Earlier, Shah had also addressed a gathering in Kaliabor in support of an Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate, signalling the coordinated efforts of the BJP-led alliance in the state.
