Will Vijay's TVK emerge as the winner in the Tamil Nadu elections 2026? This is one question that has been lingering in the minds of his fans since he announced political entry in February 2024.

Well, the exit polls were declared on Wednesday evening and some pollsters have given hopes of the TVK emerging as a force although the chances of coming to power is less.

Exit polls for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election have thrown up a fascinating and highly fragmented picture, with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerging as the biggest disruptor in what was once a largely bipolar contest.

While most projections still give the advantage to the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), the real story of this election appears to be the dramatic, and in some cases unpredictable, rise of TVK. Across agencies, Vijay's party is projected to secure anywhere between single digits to a striking three-figure tally, highlighting both its rapid ascent and the uncertainty surrounding its actual electoral strength.

The consolidated "poll of polls" suggests TVK could win between 13 and 19 seats, a decent feat for a relatively new political outfit. If realised, this would position the party as a decisive force in the state and also potentially the kingmaker in a hung assembly scenario. The same aggregation places the DMK+ alliance in the range of 137-150 seats.

However, the variation across individual exit polls is stark. Agencies such as Times Now-JVC and Spick Media have projected a strong performance for AIADMK, with estimates ranging between 124 and 147 seats-numbers that would, if accurate, propel Edappadi K Palaniswami straight to the Chief Minister's office. Similarly, News18-Vote Vibe places AIADMK neck-and-neck with the DMK+, predicting 114-124 seats for the party, narrowing the gap to just a handful of constituencies.

On the other end of the spectrum, some pollsters have predicted that the TVK will come out with flying colours. The India Today-Axis My India survey forecasts just 98-120 seats for the party. Such wide divergence underscores the challenge pollsters face in assessing a new political force with limited historical data and a highly enthusiastic but potentially uneven voter base.

Even within mid-range projections, TVK's numbers are significant. People Insight expects the party to secure 30-40 seats, while Republic-P MARQ places it between 16 and 26. NDTV-People's Pulse, meanwhile, suggest TVK could win as many as 18-24 seats, enough to substantially alter traditional power equations.

What is consistent across most surveys, however, is the erosion of the AIADMK-led alliance's dominance as the principal challenger. In several projections, TVK appears to be cutting into the opposition vote share, particularly among younger voters and urban constituencies where Vijay's personal popularity remains high. His transition from cinema icon to political leader seems to have resonated strongly with first-time voters and segments disillusioned with established parties.

The campaign itself has played a crucial role in shaping these perceptions. Vijay's messaging-centred on governance, anti-corruption, and youth empowerment-combined with his mass appeal, has enabled TVK to rapidly build a statewide presence. High-voltage rallies and a strong social media push have further amplified his reach, making TVK a formidable player in a short span of time.

Yet, the wide variation in projections also raises questions about vote conversion. While crowd turnout and enthusiasm have been evident, translating that into actual votes across diverse constituencies remains the key test. Tamil Nadu's complex caste equations, regional dynamics, and entrenched party structures could still limit TVK's final tally.

As counting day approaches, one thing is clear: regardless of the final numbers, Vijay and TVK have already reshaped the political narrative in Tamil Nadu. From being seen as an outsider to becoming a central figure in exit poll discussions, Vijay's political debut has injected fresh uncertainty-and excitement-into the state's electoral landscape.
