Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Chennai Temperature Shoots Above 40°C After Recent Rains
Days after witnessing rains, Chennai has crossed 40.0°C mark on Monday although heatwave alert has not been issued.
Weather blogger named Chennai Rains on Monday noted on X: "Anna Nagar records 40°C once again after 3rd May as temperatures climb up across #Chennai and suburbs. While it is not officially #Heatwave for N. #TamilNadu the Feels Like Temperature of 52°C, explains why we should stay Indoors if possible. #StayHydrated. #WxwithCOMK."

R Pradeep John (PJ), who is also known for weather predictions, said that Nungambakkam has crossed 40.0°C mark for the first time in May this year.
He wrote, "Nunga for the 1st time this year crosses 40C. The previous high was 39C recorded on 1st May. 40C less summer like 2018 and 2004 in May month dream is gone now. Meena far away from sea compared to Nunga also crossed 40C."
Over the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am today, maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal remained generally below normal. The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Chennai Airport, reaching 39.6°C, the Regional Metorological Centre said in its daily bulletin.
In North Interior Tamil Nadu, maximum temperatures ranged between 33-40°C, while in South Interior Tamil Nadu, temperatures varied between 33-37°C. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal experienced temperatures ranging from 29°C to 36°C, while hilly areas recorded temperatures between 20°C to 25°C, it added.
Chennai recorded normal maximum temperatures with MBK at 39.6°C (+0.7°C) and NBK at 38.9°C (+0.9°C) on Sunday.
However, the weather agency has not predicted that the weather in Chennai will cross 40.0°C mark . According to RMC, the sky condition in the Tamil Nadu capital is expected to be partly cloudy. The maximum temperature is likely to reach around 39°C, with minimum temperatures ranging between 29-30°C.
It has forecast that the temperature will gradually rise in the next few days.
The statement added, "Maximum temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 2-3˚C over Tamilnadu during the next four days (27.05.2024 to 30.05.2024). Maximum Temperature is likely to be near normal at many pockets over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during the next 24 hours (27.05.20224). Maximum Temperature is likely to be normal to above normal during 28.05.2024 to 31.05.2024."
