Leaked Jana Nayagan Movie Clip Aired on Local Channel; Coimbatore Cable Operator Arrested
A cable TV operator in Coimbatore has been arrested for allegedly telecasting leaked footage of Jana Nayagan, the much-anticipated film starring Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay, even before its official release.
The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police arrested S. Palanisamy (44), a resident of Karumathampatti, on Monday (April 13, 2026). He operates the Rasi cable TV network in the region. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Mohanapriya, deputy secretary of the Coimbatore East unit of TVK.

According to the complaint, the unreleased film was aired on a local channel named 'Rasi Prime Movie' on the night of April 11. The telecast reportedly ran for around 21 minutes after the interval, triggering concerns over piracy and unauthorized distribution.
Mohanapriya said party members approached the police around 11 pm after learning about the incident. "We presented proof of the telecast and filed a complaint. While the police initially said an FIR would be registered the next day, they later informed us that another wing was already investigating the leak," she said, adding that a CSR was not issued despite the incident taking place in Karumathampatti.
She also noted that the group is prepared to escalate the issue if necessary. "If there is no proper action at the local level, we will approach higher authorities and the District Collector," she said. She added that supporters chose not to protest due to the ongoing election period and instead opted for legal action.
Following the complaint, Coimbatore Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan formed two special teams to investigate the case. The probe confirmed that the film, which is yet to receive certification, had been illegally accessed and broadcast to viewers.
Based on the findings, the Karumathampatti police arrested Palanisamy. He was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Authorities also seized equipment allegedly used in the illegal telecast, including a computer, five hard disks and other electronic devices. The office of the cable channel has been sealed.
Police have issued a warning that strict action will be taken against those involved in piracy or unauthorized distribution of films through cable or digital platforms. Members of the public have also been urged to report such activities to authorities.
