Karnataka Weather Alert: Ready For Bengaluru Rains? Weekend Forecast Raises Hope For Thunderstorms

Partly cloudy skies greeted Bengaluru residents this Monday morning, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a generally cloudy day. There's a high chance of light to moderate rain accompanied by strong surface winds, as predicted by weather agency.

The IMD predicted thundershowers at isolated places across Karnataka. Coastal districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada may experience moderate rain with thundershowers.

There's a chance of gusty winds (30-40 km/h) in Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru City, Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, Hassan, Kodagu, Ramanagara, and Shimoga districts. Thunderstorms with light rain are expected in Belgaum, Dharwad, and Haveri.

Dry weather is likely in Bagalkote, Bidar, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapur, Yadagiri, Bellary, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Kolar, Mandya, Mysore, Tumkur, and Vijayanagar districts.

Due to the cyclone effect in the Bay of Bengal, waves have surged at Rabindranath Tagore Beach in Karwar. Tourists are advised to avoid entering the water, and lifeguards are on duty.

Railway Station Leak: Rain has caused leaks at the Hospet Nagar railway station in Vijayanagar, inconveniencing passengers. The station's roof leaks, and rainwater has entered the first platform.

Bridge Disconnection in Raichur: Heavy rains in Raichur have led to the disconnection of bridges in many villages, with overflowing ditches. Fatehpur bridge in Raichur taluk is experiencing rapid water flow, posing risks to those attempting to cross.

Roof Collapse in Yadgiri: Heavy rains in Yadgiri caused the ceiling of a house in Teggelli village, Hunsagi taluk, to collapse. Fortunately, the family inside escaped unhurt, but their stored grains were damaged.

In Raichur, Overnight heavy rain and wind damaged over 50 temporary huts in Lingasagur, belonging to the nomadic Budga Jangam community. The community is distressed, and farmers are angry at officials for not responding promptly.

Dharwad: Good pre-monsoon rains have led to an increase in sowing activity for monsoon crops like gram, chickpea, and groundnut in Dharwad rural and across the district. Farmers are accelerating sowing due to continuous rains, preparing ahead of this year's monsoon following last year's drought.

Bengaluru Weather Forecast:

Vijay, a popular weather blogger behind 'Namma Karnataka Weather', explains the weather forecast for Bengaluru indicates promising conditions for the weekend, with the winds at steering altitude expected to drop to 6 knots. Additionally, there is a noticeable difference between the dew point and air temperature, along with visible wind churn.

These conditions suggest the likelihood of good thunderstorm (TS) rains across Bengaluru, in line with the seasonal pattern expected before the Southwest monsoon sets in. This forecast offers hope for a wet and cooler weekend, providing relief from the prevailing dry spell.
