New Delhi, Aug 2: After the first week of the Monsoon session of the Parliament was wasted due to the deadlock over the issue of price rise, the government is set to mollify the Opposition in a breakfast meeting convened by the Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee on Monday, Aug 2.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has led the protests against the spiralling prices and the government's alleged failure to contain it, has vowed to work towards a solution at Pranab Mukherjee's breakfast meeting.

Ahead of the breakfast meet, the leaders of the opposition NDA, including the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and NDA Convenor and JD(U) President Sharad Yadav, met at the residence of senior BJP leader L K Advani.

"We have already given a notice under Rule 184 in Lok Sabha and Rule 168 in Rajya Sabha, which entail voting, for Monday. But, if invited, we will attend the breakfast meeting proposed by Leader of the House in Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee to take a decision on ending the impasse," Deputy Leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia said after the NDA meeting.

However, he stressed that the BJP is yet to take a 'final decision' on its future course of action in both Houses of Parliament on the price rise issue.

Sources in NDA have also revealed that the alliance is ready to end the stalemate over the issue and meet the government half way on a proposal.

Now, all rests on Pranab Mukherjee's ability to persuade the Opposition so that the Parliament can go back to transcating real business.

"It would all depend on how they (government) go about their proposal and how discussions with other Opposition parties take place," Ahluwalia said.
