'India-Singapore to cooperate in setting up Univs'

New Delhi, Dec 16: Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal on Wednesday, Dec 16, said that India and Singapore will cooperate with each other in setting up 14 innovation Universities in the country.

Sibal said India needs 21st century Universities to bridge the huge skill shortage gap and Singapore can be the best country to partner with in this area.

Sibal was speaking at the inaugural session of the Singapore Symposium, being jointly organised by the CII and the Institute of South Asian Studies (iSAS), here.

He identified infrastructure, education, and skill development as the potential areas of cooperation between India and Singapore.

Sibal further said that India has very recently initiated steps to reform the education sector and positive results are expected by 2014.

He also added that Government is not opposed to Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) opening their branches outside of India.
