Kashmiri youth qualifies for Indian Police Services
Srinagar, May 8 (ANI): After cracking civil services examinations, Jammu and Kashmir based Imtiyaz Ismail Parrey has become a celebrity in the backward village of Kulgam, 90 kilometers off Srinagar.
Parrey has been selected for the coveted Indian Police Services (IPS) cadre after passing the civil services examination conducted by the Union Public Services Commission for the civil services with the glorious 134th rank.
In 2005, he had qualified for Kashmir Administrative Services, and is currently serving as Project Officer in the Social Welfare Department of Jammu and Kashmir.
"This competition is on all India level in which 150 thousand candidates apply. I think it is a good achievement. I feel now more successful candidates will come from Kashmir who would fare better than me," said Parrey.
Parrey is the first Kashmiri in the last 15 years to qualify in the civil services examination.
His father Ismail Parrey, who is a Director in Entrepreneurship Development Institute of Jammu and Kashmir, is absolutely elated.
"As a father I feel proud that my son has done a good job. I expect our bright and intelligent youngsters will work hard and qualify for Indian civil services examination in great numbers. They need a conducive environment," said Ismail Parrey.
In 1993, Asghar Hassan Samoon qualified in the civil services examination under Scheduled Tribe category.
Later, Atull Dullo was the last Kashmiri to qualify for the civil services in the open merit category. (ANI)
