Large catche of amunition recovered

Shimoga, Nov 14 (UNI) Police today recovered a large quantity of ammunitions, explosives and books relating to Maoism from a person who is said to be a close associate of Naxalites.

Talking to newsmen here today, Superintendent of Police S Murugan said that Naxalite K Jagannatha alias Umesh aged 15 was arrested at Gopi circle on November 11 while moving on a suspected manner. He was resident of T Gopigondanahalli in Honnali taluk of Davanagere district and an active member of Civil Liberation Front (CLF) and Meruti Naxal groups.

He said that Jaganath was staunch follower of Maoism. Pamphlets and books relating to Maoism in huge quantity were found in his bag.

Mr Murugan said that based on information given by Jagannath, police have recovered 65 bullets, 1.75 ft length 3 RDX cable wire, 4 white coloured electric pin, 2 araldite tube, 2 Detonator with the connection of RDX wire, one Moscrbaer, one CD, 2 Gelatin, one binocular, and one Mobile phone.

He said that Jaganath was remanded to police custody by a magistrate before whom he was produced.

Mr Murugan said that there is also information that Naxal activities are more in Hosanagar taluk of Shimoga district.

To a question, he said that as part of the movement Jagannath might have come to the city. He opined that the arrest of Jagannath is a set back to the Naxalism in the region.

To another question, Mr Murugan said that the books recovered from Jagannatha were in Kannada and English. Some were also in Hindi and Nepali language.

This is a second Naxalite arrest in Shimoga district. Earlier one Naxal Kornakunte Krishna was arrested by Shgimoga police, Murugan added.
