UBI workers contributes to replace counterfeit with real notes

Gorakhpur, Oct 4 (UNI) Employees of Union Bank of India, Betiyahatah branch in Cantonment area here have contributed Rs 35,000 after counterfeit notes were detected from the currency chest on Wednessday.

On October 1, recovery of fake notes to the tune of Rs 35,000 from the UBI, Betiyahatah branch currency chest had sent its employees in tizzy.

Later, each of them contributed and collected the same amount of money.

Meanwhile, bank sources today said bank manager D K Tondon had taken a decision to install CCTV at each branch of the bank.

In the first phase, ten CCTV cameras would be installed--five in city and as many in other district branches, sources added.

The manager said crores of rupees are pooled in here from about 50 branches of 10 districts.

The currency is first scanned manually and then in the detecting machines, however, fault can occur at both the ends, he added.

However, nothing could be stated until the inquiry report is tabled.

It was noted that in July Rs 4.0 crore fake currency was detected from SBI Dumariaganj branch in Siddharthnagar district. The case is being probed by CBI.
