KPT Dy chairman not allowed to take charge

Bhuj, Aug 23 (UNI) Controversy regarding the transfer of Manoranjan Kumar, Deputy Chairman, Kandla Port Trust (KPT) reached the climax yesterday when the security staff prevented him from entering his official chamber despite the fact that he had rejoined KPT as Deputy Chairman recently, after obtaining a stay from the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on his transfer.

Mr Kumar had a heated argument with the security staff and other KPT personnel. The KPT staff said they were acting under Union Shipping Ministry's instructions and Mr Kumar's office had been locked. Mr Kumar is said to have shown his re-instatement order but to no avail.

Finally, Mr Kumar lodged a police complaint accusing KPT personnel of preventing him from discharging his duty.

It may be recalled that Mr Kumar, along with three other senior KPT officials, including the Chairman A Janardhana Rao, had been relieved of their posts by the Ministry of Shipping early this month after allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the Kandla Port Trust.

Mr Kumar was first appointed to the Deputy Chairman's post in September 2006.
