COP suspends two cops for bribery in AP

Vijayawada, Aug 17: The Vijayawada Commissioner of Police (COP) K V Rajendranath Reddy has issued orders for suspension of Kankipadu Police Station Assitant Sub-Inspector, an Armed Reserve Police Constable and removal of a homeguard from service for collecting money illegally from the persons, while checking their vehicles during night duty.

Mr Reddy in a release here late last night said the ASI S Rajak, ARPC D Papa Rao and Home Guard M Venketamaro Rao after reaching Redupugellu on August 15 night, kept their vehicles on the road side and collected money from the persons by stopping their vehicles.

He said as soon as he got information about the extortion of money allegedly by the police personnel, a police team rushed to the spot and nabbed the trio. Rs 4,305 was also seized from them, he added.

The Police Commissioner also chargesheeted Gannavaram Inspector N Krishna Chaitanya and Kankipadu Sub Inspector F Bhaskar Rao for their failure in controlling the staff on the incident.

Mr Reddy warned that he would take disciplinary action against wrong-doers in the department.
