ICRISAT, DBT to set up 'Agro-biotechnology research' facility
Hyderabad, Aug 14 (UNI) The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), is planning to establish a Platform for Transnational Research on Transgenic Crops (PTTC) at its campus here.
ICRISAT Director-General William Dar, in a press release said the proposed project was recently approved by the DBT. The approval comes with a funding commitment of 6.25 million dollar for five years in a row.
Dr Dar said the PTTC would strengthen transgenic research for crop improvement by providing a platform, building synergies among institutions.
PTTC would evaluate and advance the potential of new genetic engineering options to improve agricultural productivity.
