Case registered against road contractor for faulty repairs

Mumbai, June 27 (UNI) Police here have registered a complaint against a contractor, who had been entrusted with the job of conducting repairs on the Eastern Express Highway.

The complaint has been lodged against Zoom VCAPL Joint Venture Limited for the abnormal rise of accidents due to poor construction and repairs of the Eastern Express Highway near the Godrej Junction at Vikhroli here.

The contractor has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for carrying out poor quality repairs that has led to a spurt in accidents on that stretch. Six persons have died and 95 others injured in different accidents on the stretch recently.

Yesterday, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had lodged a private complaint against the contractor with the metropolitan magistrate's court. The complaint was lodged against Zoom VCAPL Executive Director Kejriwal and other directors.

The court had directed the police to investigate the matter following which the police have registered a case.
