Sankararaman murder case adjourned till April 15

Puducherry, Mar 14 (UNI) A local court today posted the Sankararaman murder case, in which the Kanchi Acharyas Jayendra Saraswati and Vijayendra Saraswati are the prime accused, to April 15 for further hearing.

When the case came up for hearing, Puducherry Second Additional District and Sessions Judge S Annamalai adjourned it as Principal District and Sessions Judge D Krishna Raja was on leave. Besides, 14 of the 24 accused, including the seers, failed to turn up and separate petitions citing reasons for their absence were filed by their respective counsels.

The proceedings in the case could not be conducted here as the Supreme Court had stayed the proceedings on a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the defence, challenging the continued appearance of the Tamil Nadu Special Public Prosecutor in the case. The SLP is still pending before the Apex Court.
