Robbers loot passengers in moving train; one dead
Nashik, Mar 4 (UNI) A gang of robbers looted passengers of the Kurla-Patna Rajendranagar Express early today, near here, but one of the robbers was crushed under the wheels while escaping.
The miscreants, armed with wooden batons, started beating passengers as soon as the train departed from Igatpuri station and moved towards Nashik Road railway station. They looted the passengers of their cash, ornaments and other valuables. Thereafter, the robbers pulled the chain, jumped out of the running train and barring two, all escaped from the spot, police sources said.
Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, who swung into action after hearing passenger's cries, held one of the robbers, Shankar Rohidas, a resident of Kandivali, Mumbai, hailing from Nalanda district of Bihar. All the robbers were between 20-25 age group, according to the sources.
Another robber, Bablu Hotelwala died after he was crushed by the speeding train. His body was found near the railway track at Lehvit.
Two of the robbers, Ajay Yadhav and Yogesh Yadhav were injured and they have been admitted to Cantonment Hospital, Dedali camp.
Meanwhile, Nagpur Additional SP (Railway) K M Beriya told mediapersons ''The robbers looted three ladies of cash Rs 4000 and ornaments. We are investigating the case and all those involved in this incident will be arrested soon.'' Most of the passengers robbed were from Bihar, Mr Beriya added.
