Raj Thackeray challenges extension of ban order
Mumbai, Feb 27 (UNI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray today challenged the extension of a ban imposed on him by police from holding rallies or 'dharnas'.
After the expiry of earlier ban on midnight of February 25, the police had extended the ban. Raj had earlier challenged the imposition of ban in the lower court.
The Sessions court rejected his petition last Monday. While upholding the maintainability of the ban, the judge had observed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) had issued such ban orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in order to maintain law and order in the city.
The court had also asked the government to follow proper legal procedure, if they wanted to extend the ban.
The petition will come up for hearing tomorrow before Additional Session Judge S N Sardesai, who had heard same application earlier.
