GJMM to relaunch hunger strike from tomorrow
Siliguri, Feb 16 (UNI) The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJMM) would relaunch its hunger strike from tomorrow for the fulfilment of their eleven-point charter of demands.
GJMM spokesman Bimal Tamang said here today that they were compelled to relaunch the hunger strike, which they earlier postponed with an assurance from the State Government, following the ''failure'' of the Centre to concede their demands.
Their demands included removal of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) caretaker administrator Subhas Ghisingh from the post and a separate state of ''Gorkhaland'' instead of according the Sixth Schedule status.
The Morcha, a breakaway faction of the Gorkha National Liberation Front, had been trying to revive a movement in the Darjeeling hills for separate statehood.
