Man gets RI for attempting to murder wife

Kancheepuram, Jan 31 (UNI) A Fast Track Court here today sentenced a man to five years rigorous imprisonment for attempting to kill his wife.

After hearing the arguments of the prosecution and the Defence, Judge R Dhandapani awarded five years RI besides imposing a fine of Rs 1,000 on Mayakannan (27) for trying to kill his wife Kanniammal (24).

Mayakannan had attacked Kanniammal with a knife, while she was working in a field on 30 May last year, as he suspected her fidelity.

The woman was immediately rushed to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital where she underwent treatment for her injuries.

A case was registered and Mayakannan arrested.

Mayakannan was later taken to the Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai, police said.
