No confirmed bird flu case in Kozhikode
Kozhikode, Jan 22 (UNI) The administration today said there was no confirmed case of avian influenza (bird flu) in the district, from where some deaths of poultry were reported.
Talking to UNI here, District Animal Husbandary Officer Kunhu Mohammed said about 50 birds died due to suspected disease 'Kozhivasantha', known in medical parlance as 'Raniket' recently.
Mr Mohammed said samples from the dead birds were collected and sent to High Animal Security Disease Laboratory (HSADL) at Bhopal for a detailed test. The exact cause of death would be known after getting a report from them, he added.
He said the authorities had adopted various measures to detect avian influenza cases in the district.
Medical teams had been dispatched to various poultry farms and checkpost, bordering Karnataka to carry out inspections.
