Shoaib Malik's split from Sania Mirza was a hot topic, especially after he tied the knot with actress Sana Javed in January 2024. While the former cricketer kept details of his divorce under wraps, it was confirmed by Sania's father that she had taken Khula (a woman-initiated divorce). Despite the drama surrounding his personal life, Shoaib has continued to maintain a strong bond with his son, Izhaan, even though Sania has primary custody.

In a recent interview, the former Pakistan cricket captain opened up about parenting. In a Ramzan special TV show in Pakistan, he described his relationship with Izhaan as more of a friendship rather than a traditional father-son dynamic. In a lighthearted revelation, Shoaib shared that his son calls him "bro" instead of "Papa," and at times, he playfully reciprocates.

"I know he's my son, but our bond is more like that of close friends. He calls me 'bro,' and sometimes, I call him that too," Shoaib remarked.

The cricketer also disclosed that he ensures regular visits to Dubai, meeting Izhaan at least twice a month. When in town, he makes it a priority to pick him up and drop him off at school, as well as actively participate in his extracurricular activities, especially football. Shoaib shared that if Izhaan has a day off, they head to the park to play a proper match together.

How Does Shoaib Malik Connect With His Son?

"We connect every day via video calls," Shoaib added, reaffirming his efforts to be present in his son's life despite the physical distance.

Previously, Shoaib had also arranged a simple yet special birthday celebration for Izhaan, taking him out for dinner and surprising him with a sports-themed cake. However, a video from the occasion showed Izhaan appearing slightly uncomfortable when his father tried to kiss him.

Interestingly, Shoaib's current wife, Sana Javed, did not publicly acknowledge Izhaan's birthday, sparking further discussions about their family dynamics.

Sania and Shoaib married in April 2010 in Hyderabad and settled in Dubai. They welcomed Izhaan in October 2018.
