Television Actor Rohit Chandel Arrested for Alleged Stalking, Assaulting Minor

The Mumbai Police on Saturday arrested television actor Rohit Chandel following a complaint filed by a minor, accusing him of stalking, repeatedly calling, harassing and assaulting.

The incident occurred on July 5. A case has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

"Television actor Rohit Chandel has been arrested by Ghatkopar police for allegedly stalking, harassing, and assaulting a 16-year-old girl in an eastern suburb. The actor allegedly repeatedly called the minor from his number and several other numbers, harassing her. On July 5, he allegedly confronted the girl near her residential building, chased her, picked up an argument, abused her, and assaulted her by hitting her with his hands. Police have booked him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Further investigation is underway," ANI quoted Mumbai Police in a tweet.

The cops have invoked Sections 78 and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Times of India reported.

Speaking to the English daily, a police official said, "Following the complaint, a case was registered and the accused has been placed under arrest. Further probe is underway in the case."

30-year-old actor is best known for playing Baji Rao in Kashibai Bajirao Ballal and Dhawal Makwana in Pandya Store.

He started off his career with commercials and made his television debut in BIG Magic series Har Mushkil Ka Hal Akbar Birbal in a minor role. He was next seen in Yam Hain Hum, Tamanna, Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai, Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai, Vikram Betaal Ki Rahasya Gatha, Chandragupta Maurya, etc.

He acted in web series Escaype Live.

However, Chandel is yet to issue a statement to the media to tell his side of the story.
