Team India is taking on England in the opening encounter of the five-match test series that started today. England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first. Thanks to Indian spinners R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel's turning deliveries, the English side was bundled up for a low total of 246 in the first inning.

All three spinners notched eight wickets collectively, while speedster Jaspreet Bumrah knocked down two English batsmen.

In the first innings, Team India totally dominated the visitors as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Except for skipper Ben Stokes, no other English batsmen managed to stay for long at the crease. Stokes showed some really good hands and managed to score 70 runs off 88 balls studded with six rolling boundaries and 3 towering sixes. He batted at a strike rate of 79.55.

Ben Duckett (35) and Jonny Bairstow (39) were the other two batsmen who tried to play some big hands but were restricted by Indian bowlers.
