Slow-Moving Vehicle Stopped at Red Light and Exploded Near Red Fort Metro: Delhi Police Commissioner

A massive explosion near Gate No. 1 of Delhi's Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening killed at least eight people and injured several others. The blast, which took place around 6:52 pm, has triggered a multi-agency investigation amid growing suspicions of a terror link.

The area, usually crowded during rush hour, was thrown into chaos as flames engulfed nearby vehicles following the explosion.

Blast During Evening Rush Hour

According to officials, the explosion occurred when a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light and suddenly exploded. The impact was strong enough to damage several vehicles in the vicinity and scatter debris across the road.

Authorities received a call about the incident at 6:55 pm. Seven fire tenders were dispatched to the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control quickly.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said, "Today at around 6.52 pm, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light. An explosion happened in that vehicle, and due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged. All agencies, FSL, NIA, are here... Some people have died, and some have been injured in the incident. The situation is being monitored. The Home Minister has also called us, and information is being shared with him from time to time."

Teams from the NIA, NSG, and forensic science laboratory have joined the investigation. The explosion site has been cordoned off, and investigators are combing through the wreckage for evidence.

PM Modi and Amit Shah Reviewing Situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken stock of the situation after being briefed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Officials said the Prime Minister has sought regular updates on the probe.

Amit Shah immediately spoke with the Delhi Police Commissioner after the incident and directed the NSG, NIA, and forensic teams to the scene. He remains in constant touch with the Intelligence Bureau Director as the investigation progresses.

Authorities are analyzing CCTV footage from the area to determine the vehicle's route and identify possible suspects behind the explosion.
