Prince William speaks to PM Modi about steel crisis
New Delhi, April 13: Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge who is currently on a tour of India with his wife Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambrdige, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and spoke about the problems steel manufacturers in the UK and India are facing.
The problem arose after Tata Steel announced its decision to sell its assets in the UK, including the Port Talbot steelworks, endangering employment of thousands. [William, Kate take part in Bihu celebrations]
On Tuesday, UK's Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Sajid Javid said he was open to partly nationalising the Port Talbot plant even as search was on for the buyer. The British authorities also convened an emergency meeting to discuss the steel crisis. [William, Kate interact with homeless kids]
Javid, in a U-turn, said the British government was looking at "co-investing" with a provate form to buy the Tata's British arm.
On Tuesday, the Tatas also agreed to sale their Long products Europe division, including the unit at Scunthorpe.
