Delhi Weather Update: IMD Predicts Rain And Gusty Winds, Issues Orange Alert For Friday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow' alert, followed by an 'orange' alert, for Delhi as the city braces for intense weather conditions on Thursday and Friday. The forecast includes rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, with speeds expected to reach up to 70 kmph.

According to the IMD, Delhi is likely to experience a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms over the next 48 hours. The orange alert, the second-highest in IMD's four-level warning system, calls on residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions due to the potential for localized disruptions caused by thunderstorms.

Temperatures and Humidity in the Capital

On Wednesday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6°C - 1.8 degrees below the seasonal average - while the minimum temperature was 27.7°C, which is 1.1 degrees above normal. The IMD reported that relative humidity fluctuated between 70% and 49% during the day, contributing to a muggy and uncomfortable atmosphere.

Air Quality and Weather Fluctuations

Delhi's air quality on Wednesday was categorized as "moderate," with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reporting an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 151 at 4 p.m. An AQI between 101 and 200 falls within the moderate range and can cause minor discomfort for sensitive individuals.

The IMD alerts have been issued as Delhi experiences varying weather patterns in the lead-up to the arrival of the monsoon season in the coming weeks.
