Delhi Assembly Polls: JP Nadda To Release BJP's Manifesto Today

The BJP will release its manifesto 'Sankalp Patra' for the Delhi Elections at 2 pm today. The party aims to challenge the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the February 5 polls, particularly targeting AAP's Mahila Samman Yojana.

BJP To Woo Voters With Freebies

To win support, the BJP is expected to propose a cash assistance scheme for women, modelled on similar initiatives implemented in BJP-governed states. Additionally, the manifesto may include an expansion of the free bus ride scheme, which currently benefits women, to male students and senior citizens.

A senior BJP leader on the manifesto committee recently spoke to The Indian Express about the inclusivity of the proposed scheme, explaining that male students of all ages, from kindergarten to PhD scholars, can benefit by presenting their identity cards. For senior citizens, all individuals above 60 years of age would qualify. The party estimates that these measures will attract significant voter support.

The BJP also plans to replicate the success of schemes like Madhya Pradesh's Ladli Behna Yojana and Maharashtra's Ladki Bahin Yojana by introducing a monthly financial aid for women in Delhi, likely ranging between ₹2,500 and ₹3,000.

AAP's Populist Schemes

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party is expected to maintain its focus on populist measures in its manifesto, with sources suggesting 7-8 key promises. These may include continued free electricity, water, healthcare, education, pilgrimage schemes, and bus rides for women, alongside an emphasis on infrastructure development.

On the other hand, the Congress has already announced its key pledges, including 300 units of free electricity, LPG cylinders at ₹500, free ration kits, and a ₹2,500 monthly payment to women. These proposals aim to appeal strongly to women voters.

Delhi's elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8. Key dates for candidates include the nomination deadline on January 17, scrutiny on January 18, and the withdrawal of candidature by January 20.
