Mumbai Rains: Heavy Rainfall Expected As Low Pressure Area Intensifies in Bay of Bengal
A well-marked low pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast is expected to concentrate into a depression within the next 24 hours, influencing widespread rainfall across several regions, including Mumbai and the western coast of India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the west coast, particularly in Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra, and Goa over the next three to four days. Mumbai, being part of coastal Maharashtra, is likely to experience significant rainfall as these weather systems progress.

The ongoing southwest monsoon has advanced further into Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and adjoining areas, creating favorable conditions for increased rainfall activity. The northern limit of the monsoon currently passes through Mumbai and other key locations.
In addition to the Bay of Bengal low pressure system, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to bring rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds over northwest India starting May 29.
The IMD advises residents and authorities to stay alert as the combined effects of these weather systems are anticipated to cause continued heavy rains over Mumbai and surrounding coastal regions through the end of May.
