On Vijayadashami in 1956, Dr Ambedkar initiated a revolution at Deekshabhoomi by renouncing Hinduism and converting over 5 lakh of his followers to Buddhism.

On this day, Buddhist followers and those who adhere to Ambedkarite ideology come from across the country to pay respects to the urn containing Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's ashes.

In the evening, the Dhammachakra Pravartan Day conference will be held in the presence of the Bhikkhu Sangha. For the first time, no politicians will be given a platform at the event.

This year, over 200 book stalls have been set up at Deekshabhoomi. All necessary arrangements have been made for the millions of followers arriving between October 11 to 14.

Buddha Vandana and Oaths Taken by Samata Sainik Dal

In the morning, Buddha Vandana was conducted in the presence of Bhante Arya Nagarjuna Surai Sasai and other monks.

Besides this, members of the Samata Sainik Dal also took their oaths.

It is interesting to note that a large number of followers visit Deekshabhoomi on Vijayadashami celebrated as Ashoka Vijayadashami, as well as on October 14, the day Dr Ambedkar administered 22 vows to his followers.
