BMC's Post-Election Focus: Tackling Pollution, Property Tax Defaulters, And Stalled Projects

The municipal administration is set to resume its regular operations following the conclusion of the election code of conduct, as per the Lokmat report. With the Chief Electoral Officer doubling as the Municipal Commissioner, nearly 60-70 per cent of municipal employees were engaged in election duties, causing routine activities to slow down. However, now that the elections are over, the municipality is expected to refocus on its pending projects and responsibilities.

Pollution Control Guidelines For Developers

BMC s Post-Election Focus

Ahead of the elections, the municipality issued 21 guidelines aimed at reducing pollution caused by construction activities. However, enforcement was delayed due to election priorities. Officials now plan to take strict action against developers and contractors who fail to comply. A meeting with newly appointed Deputy Engineers is scheduled this week to strategise the implementation of these measures.

Property Tax Drive Intensifies

The election period also slowed property tax collection efforts. With just one month remaining in the financial cycle, the tax assessment and collection department is ramping up activities. Notices have been sent to defaulters, warning them of property confiscation and auctions for unpaid taxes. The administration is determined to recover dues promptly.

Recruitment And Development Projects

The recruitment of 690 junior and secondary engineers, paused due to the election, will now proceed. Additionally, the expansion of Jijabai Bhosle Udyan and Zoo (Queen's Garden) is set to move forward. Plans include introducing foreign animals and an underground aquarium. Work on the aquarium had been delayed due to technical issues and tender-related problems, but follow-up actions are now being prioritised, according to a senior official.

The administration's renewed focus marks a significant step in addressing delays caused by the election period, ensuring essential civic responsibilities are met efficiently.
