Union Budget 2024: Growth-Focused Initiatives for MSMEs and Job Creation in India

The Union Budget has been described as growth-focused by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Telangana. It highlights substantial backing for MSMEs, job creation, and skill development. The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) also lauded the budget presented by Nirmala Sitharaman, terming it progressive and pro-development, with the goal of laying a solid foundation for a developed India.

According to Sai D Prasad, CII Telangana Chairman and Executive Director of Bharat Biotech International Ltd, the budget's comprehensive focus on MSMEs is noteworthy. He mentioned that the 2024-25 budget offers a detailed plan for various societal segments, ensuring inclusive growth for all Indians. The nine key priorities outlined in the budget aim to create an inclusive, resilient, prosperous, environmentally sustainable, and technologically advanced nation.

Prasad highlighted that the budget's emphasis on employment, skilling, MSMEs, and the middle class is timely and impactful. It includes targeted measures for agriculture, urban development, and incentivising states to implement NextGen reforms. This approach aims to promote a virtuous cycle of consumption, investment, and demand while supporting start-ups and women entrepreneurs.

Additionally, Prasad pointed out that the Finance Minister focused on maintaining the fiscal deficit target at a better-than-expected 4.9 per cent of GDP for the current fiscal year. This fiscal discipline is expected to support economic stability and growth.

FTCCI President Suresh Kumar Singhal welcomed the Finance Minister's proposal to boost the MSME sector. He appreciated the focus on four priority areas: employment, skills, MSMEs, and the middle class. Singhal also supported the proposal to open new SIDBI branches within three years to serve major MSME clusters and provide direct credit.

FTCCI Senior Vice-President Ravi Kumar commended the decision to review the MUDRA loan cap. The cap has been increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, empowering entrepreneurs with better access to credit.

Education and Skilling Initiatives

CII Telangana Vice Chairman RS Reddy praised the budget for its focus on strengthening the MSME sector. He highlighted the allocation of Rs 1.48 lakh crore for education, employment, and skilling as a significant boost to the economy. Opening SIDBI branches in industrial clusters is expected to further support this sector.

The ambitious plan outlined in the budget represents a significant step towards achieving a developed India by 2047. By promoting inclusive growth and stimulating economic activity through various measures, the budget aims to empower individuals across different segments of society.
