US President Donald Trump Supports Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy In H-1B Visa Debate
Donald Trump has expressed support for a visa programme that aids highly skilled workers in entering the United States. "I've always liked the (H1-B) visas, I have always been in favour of the visas, that's why we have them," he told the New York Post. This marks his first public comment on the matter since it became a hot topic this week.
The debate has caused tension between Trump's traditional supporters and tech figures like Elon Musk. Musk, who migrated from South Africa on an H1-B visa, argues that attracting top engineering talent from abroad is crucial for America's success. He even vowed to "go to war" over this issue on his X platform.

Tech Giants vs. Traditionalists
Vivek Ramaswamy, co-chairing a government cost-cutting panel with Musk under Trump, criticised what he called an "American culture" that venerates mediocrity. He warned that the U.S. risks being outpaced by China. This statement angered many conservatives who have long supported Trump.
Some of Trump's early backers worry he might be swayed by big tech donors like Musk, potentially straying from his campaign promises. The concern is whether Trump's comments will ease tensions within his party or highlight the challenges of reforming immigration policies when he assumes office in January.
Conservative Backlash
Laura Loomer, a far-right MAGA figure known for her conspiracy theories, voiced her concerns about Trump's alignment with tech leaders. She stated, "We have to protect President Trump from the technocrats." Loomer and others believe Trump should focus on promoting American workers and further limiting immigration.
Musk's outspoken stance has already upset some Republicans after his online campaign disrupted a bipartisan budget deal last week. On X, he warned of a "MAGA civil war" and bluntly responded to critics by saying, "I will go to war on this issue."
Divisive Opinions
Steve Bannon, a strategist for Trump, criticised the H1-B program on Gettr, claiming it brings in migrants who work for less than American citizens would. He took a jab at Musk by calling him a "toddler," highlighting the growing rift between Trump's supporters and tech leaders.
This ongoing debate underscores how contentious changes to immigration policy could become once Trump takes office in January. The divide between traditionalists and tech advocates reflects broader tensions within Trump's support base.
