US Election 2024: Bomb Threats Hit Pennsylvania, Georgia Election Sites; Voting Extended In Clearfield County

Millions of Americans headed to the polls on Tuesday, November 5, to cast their votes in the U.S. presidential election. As results start coming in, this election marks a pivotal moment in American history, with Republican candidate Donald Trump facing off against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in what many consider one of the most consequential elections in recent memory.

Meanwhile, in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, a judge extended voting hours to 9 p.m. after a bomb threat targeted an administrative building involved in vote counting. The decision was made through an oral ruling, with a written petition to be submitted in the morning, according to a spokesperson.

Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed multiple bomb threats had been reported at polling locations and municipal sites across Pennsylvania. He assured residents that the state is working closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement to respond to the incidents, adding, "Thus far, there is no credible threat to the Commonwealth."

During a live press conference, Governor Shapiro stated that while several bomb threats were received on Election Day, none have been considered credible. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation to ensure voter safety and security.

Similar threats were reported in Georgia, where Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger confirmed record voter turnout despite these challenges. "There were 1.22 million voters on Election Day-a record for the state," Raffensperger stated. He praised Georgia's election officials, saying, "We worked through it. Battle-tested." Georgia also saw a historic early voter turnout, with 4 million residents casting their ballots before Election Day.
