Russian Military Plane Crashes Near Ukraine With 65 Ukrainian Prisoners Of Wars

A Russian military transport plane, carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, six crew members, and three accompanying individuals, crashed in Russia's Belgorod region near Ukraine, as reported by Russia's Defense Ministry, On Wednesday.

The cause of the crash, which occurred around 11 a.m., was not immediately clear, and it remains unknown if anyone survived.

An investigation into the crash's cause is underway, and the Defense Ministry mentioned that a special military commission was en route to the crash site, reported Washington Post .

Major Russian Missile Attack Inflicts Casualties:

Earlier on Wednesday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that a significant Russian missile attack, designed to overwhelm Ukraine's air defenses, resulted in 18 fatalities and 130 injuries. The assault, utilizing over 40 ballistic, cruise, anti-aircraft, and guided missiles, targeted residential buildings in three Ukrainian cities, according to Washington Post

    The Institute for the Study of War suggested that Russia might have employed decoy missiles in the recent attack to exploit vulnerabilities in Ukraine's air defenses. Russia is reportedly seeking more ballistic missiles, possibly from foreign sources like Iran and North Korea.

    Additional Missile Strikes in Kharkiv:

    A subsequent barrage of Russian S-300 missiles struck residential areas of Kharkiv, causing injuries and damaging buildings. Russia denies targeting civilian areas, despite evidence to the contrary.

    Downing of Ukrainian Drones:

    The Russian Defense Ministry reported shooting down four Ukrainian drones over the Oryol region in western Russia. Another Ukrainian drone was downed over the Belgorod border region. Both incidents resulted in no casualties but caused damage.

    Germany Sends Helicopters to Ukraine:

    The German defense ministry announced plans to send six SEA KING Mk41 multi-role helicopters from Bundeswehr stocks to Ukraine. Germany has provided significant military aid, totaling around 6 billion euros since the beginning of the war, including anti-aircraft and air defense systems.
