Quad Caucus Formed by US Lawmakers Before Upcoming Quad Leaders' Summit

A group of US lawmakers from both parties announced the formation of a QUAD Caucus in Congress. This announcement came just before the four-nation Summit, which includes leaders from Australia, India, and Japan, invited by President Joe Biden to his home in Wilmington, Delaware. The Summit aims to address key issues such as infrastructure, maritime security, climate change, health, and technology.

New Quad Caucus Established by US Lawmakers

The QUAD Caucus was introduced by Congressman Ami Bera, Congressman Rob Wittman, and Senators Tammy Duckworth and Pete Ricketts. These lawmakers are part of the House Foreign Affairs Indo-Pacific Subcommittee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The focus is on strengthening ties with Quad partners as the Indo-Pacific region gains importance for global security and economic growth.

Strengthening Partnerships in the Indo-Pacific

Congressman Bera emphasised the significance of reinforcing relationships with Quad nations to ensure peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. "The launch of the Quad Caucus underscores our shared commitment to fostering peace, stability, and development in the region. By promoting collaboration on key issues like maritime security, infrastructure, and climate, we can ensure a safer and more prosperous future for all," he stated.

Wittman highlighted the importance of cooperation among the United States, Japan, India, and Australia for regional stability. He noted that their joint efforts in managing emerging technologies and countering illegal fishing demonstrate a commitment to a better future. "Cooperation between the United States, Japan, India, and Australia is crucial for the future stability of the Indo-Pacific," Wittman added.

Bipartisan Support for Regional Collaboration

Senator Duckworth expressed pride in launching the Senate's first Quad Caucus alongside Senator Ricketts. "In a strong display of bipartisan support for the region, I'm proud to help launch the Senate’s first-ever Quad Caucus alongside co-chair Senator Ricketts ahead of President Biden's leaders summit this weekend," she remarked.

Senator Ricketts described partnerships like the Quad as America's greatest strength in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific. He stressed their commitment to enhancing collaboration with Quad partners. "We are committed to finding tangible ways to bolster collaboration with our Quad partners," he said.

The establishment of this caucus highlights a unified approach towards addressing challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. By focusing on shared goals such as maritime security and technological governance, these nations aim to create a stable environment conducive to growth and prosperity.
