A claim has been made by state officials that Peru's Andean mountains may hold the secret to longevity and the world's oldest-ever person, if the new assertion of a 124-year-old man born in 1900 is proven true.
It has been claimed by the country's government that Marcelino Abad from the central Peruvian region of Huanuco is 124 years old, which, if verified, would make him by a significant margin the oldest living person and surpass the oldest ever independently verified human, as reported by India Today citing Reuters.

In a statement, it was mentioned by the government that a healthy way of life and inner peace were developed by Marcelino Abad Tolentino or 'Mashico' among the tranquility of Huanuco's flora and fauna, with this reflected in his good health and friendly personality.
The government stated that he was able to overcome 12 decades of life with resilience and skill, and on April 5th, he celebrated blowing out 124 candles. Peruvian authorities have indicated that they are assisting Abad in applying to Guinness World Records for independent verification, reported Reuters.
Born in the small town of Chaglla, Abad has lived under the radar until identified by the Peruvian government in 2019, which secured him a government ID and pension.
For his 124th birthday celebration on April 5th, Abad was treated to a special event at the senior home where he now resides, complete with a birthday cake adorned with a figurine in his likeness, according to a statement issued by the pension program that Abad is part of.
