'Pakistan Shot Down 5 Indian Jets' Claims Defence Minister Asif In CNN Interview, Becomes Butt Of A Joke

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has become a butt of a joke after a video of his interview with CNN went viral on social media sites.

Speaking to the news channel, Khawaja Asif was exposed after the journalist caught him spreading misinformation about Pakistan shooting down five Indian jets on Wednesday.

On asking to provide evidence to his claims that five Indian fighter jets were shot down by Pakistan army, he told the journalist: "It's all over the social media, on Indian social media, not on our social media. The debris of these jets fell into Kashmir. And it's all over Indian media today and they have admitted."

Exposing his lies, the Anchor shot back saying: "I'm sorry we didn't ask you here to talk about social media content." When asked further details, Asif struggled to provide details about the the plane used by Pakistani forces to shoot down the Indian fighter jets.

When asked whether Pakistan shot down Indian jets using Chinese equipment, he said, "No, Chinese equipment. We have Chinese planes, JF-17 and JF-10. They are Chinese planes, but they are being manufactured, assembled in Pakistan now. We have very close to Islamabad, we have a facility over there where these planes are manufactured and if India can buy planes from France and use them, we can also buy planes from China or Russia or United States, UK and use them."

He has become a butt of a joke on social media after the video of his claims went viral. Netizens are hilariously trolling him.

After threatening India of a befitting reply if attacked days ago, his tone changed after India carried out the attack. He claimed that Islamabad is ready to ease tensions with New Delhi if India de-escalates the current situation.

He told Bloomberg: "We have consistently maintained over the past two weeks that we will not initiate any hostile action against India. However, if we are attacked, we will respond," Asif said. "If India chooses to step back, we are fully prepared to wind down this tension."

Later, in another interview, he said that Pakistan will respond to India's attack but will not target civilians.

"We will never target civilians," he told Pakistani news channel Geo News. He added: "We will abide by international law. We will contain this international confrontation to military targets only."
