Quetta Division Commissioner Hamza Shafqat confirmed the death toll and stated that the blast was a suicide attack. He announced that train services were being suspended as a precautionary measure. Speaking to Geo News, Shafqat added that among the deceased were both civilians and law enforcement personnel. The banned militant group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The explosion comes only a week after a bomb blast near a girls' school and hospital in Balochistan's Mastung district that killed eight, including five children. The violence has intensified in Pakistan's Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces over the past year.

This incident unfolded at approximately 8:25 a.m., as the Jaffar Express was preparing to depart for Peshawar. SSP Operations Mohammad Baloch reported that around 100 people were present at the platform during the blast. Security forces and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and an emergency was declared at hospitals to treat the injured.

Commissioner Shafqat urged the public to donate blood to support the wounded and noted that the city had been cordoned off, with snap-checking and a ban on public gatherings enforced. Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind mentioned that the Bomb Disposal Squad was collecting evidence, with an incident report in progress.

Pakistan Railways had only recently resumed train services between Quetta and Peshawar on October 11 after they were halted on August 26 when a key railway bridge between Kolpur and Mach was destroyed in another BLA-coordinated attack.
