India Designates 23 Pakistan-Based Individuals As Terrorists Under UAPA

India on Saturday designated 23 23 individuals as terrorists under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967).

In a statement, the Union Home Minister said, "The Government of India has declared 23 individuals as terrorists under the UAPA. The list includes Pakistan-based operatives linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), involved in recruitment, training, funding, arms supply, and cross-border infiltration. Among those named are Masood Ilyas Kashmiri (JeM), Mohammad Musaddiq (JeM), Mufti Mohammad Asghar Khan and Hafiz Abdul Shakoor."

Union Home Minister Anit Shah that the government is pursuing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of zero tolerance against terror and named individuals are involved in anti-India activities, carrying out terror attacks, inciting terror, trafficking arms, infiltrating through the border, facilitating terrorist organisations, raising funds and recruiting terrorists.

In a post on X

Warning the terrorists, he ended, "The Modi govt is determined to rip apart every terror module to shield India and its people."

Under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, the Central Government is empowered to designate an individual as a terrorist if they are found to be involved in terrorist activities. Following a 2019 amendment that expanded the law's scope from terrorist organizations to individuals, this designation allows the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to seize assets, freeze finances, and enforce arms embargoes against them.
