Pakistan activist murder: Investigators yet to get headway

Islamabad, April 28: Authorities investigating the murder case of well known human rights activist Sabeen Mahmud are yet to get headway, media reported.

Their failure has dashed the hope to answer the questions raised after her murder. It has raised fears on the safety of dissenting voices, Dawn online reported.

Pak activist murder: no headway

Sabeen was killed when motorcycle borne assailants attacked her in Karachi on April 24. The killing took place when was leaving her cafe The Second Floor (T2F), where she held art exhibitions and talks.

She had just hosted a discussion on disappearances in Balochistan, where the army is fighting a separatist insurgency, and, rights workers say, overseeing a campaign of killing opponents.

Her talk titled "Unsilencing Balochistan" was earlier scheduled to be held at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) earlier this month was cancelled by the authorities.

Mahmud and other activists like her believed that security forces were carrying out extra-judicial killings of separatists in the province. It is claimed that many people have disappeared and later were found dead. The security forces, however, deny any such killings.
