Pakistan | Imran Khan Alleges Wife Bushra Bibi Fed Food Laced With Toilet Cleaner In Jail

Imran Khan, the beleaguered former Pakistan prime minister, has informed a court that his wife, Bushra Bibi, was allegedly being given food mixed with "toilet cleaner," which he claimed caused daily stomach irritation and deteriorated her health.

The allegation was made by Imran Khan during a hearing in the £190 million corruption case at Rawalpindi's Adiala jail, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Imran Khan stated to Judge Nasir Javed Rana that additional walls had been erected in the courtroom, making it appear like a closed court.

Imran Khan mentioned that Shaukat Khanum Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. Asim Yousaf had suggested conducting tests on Bushra Bibi at Shifa International Hospital. However, he added that the jail administration insisted on carrying out the test at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The court subsequently ordered the medical examination of both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi by Dr Yousaf. During the proceedings, following Imran Khan's observation about the erection of additional walls, the judge directed the authorities to remove the wooden planks.

Later on, the court instructed Imran Khan not to hold "press conferences during the hearings." In response, Khan mentioned that the media was removed after the hearing by the authorities. On April 15, Bushra Bibi requested the Islamabad High Court to permit her medical checkup at a private hospital of her choice, aiming to determine if she was being poisoned through food provided by the jail authorities, as per media reports.

Bushra Bibi claimed to be suffering from heartburn and pain in her throat and mouth. Bushra Bibi has been detained at her Banigala residence, which was declared a sub-jail. Bushra Bibi, aged 49, has been convicted in a corruption case as well as in a case related to an illegal marriage with Imran Khan.

Earlier this week, Imran Khan stated that Army Chief General Asim Munir was directly responsible for the imprisonment of Bushra Bibi.
